The book gets a little bloodier. Not Cormac McCarthy bloody, but a few small steps in the direction nevertheless.

PROGRESS REPORT

New Words: 1300 on chapter 7 ("The Scalphunters") of Arizona. The titular scalphunters get their first kills, including someone who's been a character in the book for a fair while. Finn and Thompson both get pretty bloodied as well.

Total Words: 188100.

Reason For Stopping: Getting ready for work.

Book Year: 1836.

Mammalian Assistance: None, oddly enough. Vegas apparently had other things to do.

Exercise: Walked Tucker around the neighborhood, and walked down to campus.

Stimulants: None.

Today's Opening Passage(s): Itsa-Ichii knew they were coming. Her ears were bad these days so the wind spoke to her in dreams, and in her dream it warned her to be ready. It had warned her about the Americans for years, but now the invaders’ time had come: They would sweep her little band away.

She tried warning the warriors. They laughed at the old woman. Not at the improbability of the Americans' approach, but her urging to move to a place the band couldn’t be found. Their medicine was stronger than the Americans’. Those hunting the Dineh would find only death, they said.

Darling Du Jour: Mostly just blood.

Non-Research / Review Books In Progress: Fleming; Peck; Merton.

Well, I was going to start inserting pictures of the general areas I was writing about at any given time under these entries, but apparently Dreamwidth has poo-pooed the idea of directly uploading images from my computer.
